Water

I've always loved the outdoors, especially anywhere near water, whether that was near the Red River hanging out as a preteen, on an Island in Lake of the Woods, travelling to far off places and dipping into the Mediterranean or the Pacific Ocean and now at our beautiful place on the Winnipeg River. I love to swim, boat and float but what recharges me most is sitting by the water, the soothing sway and melody. There are some meditation practices that instruct you to put your thoughts into the river and let them float away. I innately understand this.

Our direct path into the city centre uses a bridge over the Cam, every time I go over it I pause at the top for a moment or a few minutes. There is quite often waterfowl nearby, Canadian geese, swans, mallards and other ducks. I have also observed kayaks, punting boats, canoes and paddle-boards from this bridge. There is a library at the base of the bridge, can you imagine finding the right book and being settled there by the water, magical.

There is a brook near our flat, Bin Brook, I have followed it within the city and out to the fields. Like the Cam it has been managed and manipulated by humans, displaced from its original path. There have been times in my life when I felt like the Brook, redirected from my original path from outside forces. I am thankful for those pushes as they have all lead me to where I am today. I may not have appreciated all of the redirection at the time, thankfully hindsight is 20/20 and like myself, the flow of water, will find a way.
