I feel very settled here in England. I'm in a regular routine that feels good and normal. I'm enjoying myself, what a wonderful thing. I started following the steps of the Artist's Way, a twelve week process of believing in my creative self and the way of being an artist. I start each day with three written pages of stream of consciousness, it is amazing where my mind can wander and how satisfying it is to write that much first thing in the morning with a pot of tea. It is luxurious to have the time to do this self improvement and exploration. Part of week one was to take myself out on an artists date, I went on an afternoon bike ride and stopped at an artist supply store and a craft store to have a look about. There is a certain smell to an art supplies store that brings me back to my Fine Arts University days, such good memories.
Genevieve and I went to H&M in pursuit of a bucket hat for her, we found that and much more. Her development of her own style is wonderful to witness, pushing to see what she can get away with and finding what feels comfortable and right. She also went out for a 6 hour afternoon adventure with friends from school, shopping, eating and hanging out. Such an amazing experience being able to let her go out here as her first forays into the hanging out for hours with schoolmates. Cambridge feels very safe, especially in the city centre that fills up on the weekend.
The corn and tomatoes that we transplanted died, I was too anxious and should have waited. Maybe its an after May long weekend thing here too, the long weekend is the first weekend of May here though.
The weather has been really nice this week and dry. I've done some watercolour paintings, sitting outside at the picnic table in the garden, looking out over the Canola field that we walked through a few evenings later. Proud of the Manitoba made crop. Photographs from our time here so far are downloaded with the intention of getting a few albums printed and the start of creating a slideshow of our time in the UK. Cherry Hinton was a daytime ride together with Aaron on Thursday, discovering another part of Cambridge. Friday, Aaron and I enjoyed a round of golf at a nine hole pitch and putt, the day was gorgeous and the course was very nice. We also did a little over 30kms on the bikes together on Saturday out to Fen Drayton, some marsh land that hasn't been drained like the surrounding area. We popped into a lovely pub on the way home for a pint. Fantastic outdoor gardens, great outdoor furniture, covered outdoor seating area with heat lamps all around and fab play structure for children. It was so nice to witness families out, I wish there were places like this in Winnipeg, oh the corner pub, people from different tables greeting each other, a new born's first outing, and laughing amongst mates.
Sunday we packed up a few items and headed outside to enjoy the gardens where we live. A picnic lunch, playing frisbee, reading and writing. Lovely to sit on the grass and take in the outdoors, plants that are different and trees that have different shapes than I see back home.
